A total of 555 people were killed and 1,031 injured in 503 road accidents in February this year, according to a report by Jatri Kalyan Samity.
The report has been prepared based on the news of road, rail and waterway accidents published in the national, regional and online newspapers of the country, said a press release signed by Jatri Kalyan Samity Secretary General Mozammel Haque Chowdhury on Wednesday (20 March).
According to the report, 37 people were killed and 64 injured in 38 accidents on the railways in the month of February.
7 people were killed, 4 injured and one missing in five accidents on the waterway.
In total, 599 people were killed and 1,099 people were injured in a total of 546 accidents on road, rail and waterways in February.
During the period, 210 people were killed and 129 people were injured in 173 motorcycle accidents. Which accounts for 34.39% of the total accidents, 37.83% of the deaths and 12.51% of the injuries.
Dhaka Division recorded the highest number of road accidents in February, with 115 road accidents resulting in 135 deaths and 317 injuries.
Sylhet division has had the least number of road accidents, with 22 killed and 50 injured in 21 road accidents.
The analysis of the types of accidents shows 36.77% of the total accidents took place on national highways, 18.48% on regional highways, and 39.76% on feeder roads.
Apart from this, 2.78% of the total accidents occurred in Dhaka metropolis, 0.79% in Chattogram metropolis and 1.39% in railway crossings.
