At least one person was killed and 10 people were injured when a bus overturned in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway’s Madaripur section.

“The accident took place in Shibchar at around 7:30am on Wednesday (24 April),” Shibchar Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shakeel Ahmed said.

“A bus of Unique Paribahan was going from Dhaka to Kuakata in Patuakhali. The bus lost control and overturned when it reached the Bandarkhola area of Shibchar in Madaripur on the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Expressway. A passenger named Golam Rahman Shikder died on the spot. At this time 10 people were injured,” he added.

Locals said the injured have been admitted to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex and some local private clinics.

The body of the deceased has been handed over to the family.

Police said legal proceedings are ongoing in this regard.
