During his visit, Guterres toured the new UN Common Premises, viewed a 50th-anniversary photo exhibition, and participated in the official UN flag-raising ceremony. He also met with the UN Country Team in Bangladesh to discuss ongoing initiatives.
Later in the day, the UN chief is scheduled to participate in a roundtable discussion on reform proposals from 12:45 pm to 2:15 pm at Hotel InterContinental. Guterres and Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain are set to address a joint press briefing at 5:20 pm at Hotel InterContinental.
During his visit to the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar on Friday, Guterres emphasized the need for continued global attention and aid for the displaced Rohingyas. “We cannot allow the international community to forget about the Rohingyas. My voice will speak loud to demand urgent support, as this population needs assistance to live in dignity here in Bangladesh,” he stated.
