United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed optimism that Bangladesh's ongoing reforms will transform the nation into one of the world's most exemplary democracies

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has voiced his confidence that Bangladesh’s reform initiatives will elevate the country into one of the world's most refined democratic states.

Before departing Dhaka on Sunday (16 March) morning following his Ramadan Solidarity visit, Guterres shared his optimism regarding the nation’s democratic trajectory.

His flight took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:55am.

At the airport, he was seen off by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser on Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, along with Khalilur Rahman, the High Representative of the Chief Adviser’s Principal Adviser on Rohingya Affairs.

According to Abul Kalam Azad Mazumdar, deputy press secretary to the chief adviser, Guterres had a telephone conversation with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus before his departure, exchanging farewell greetings.

Reaffirming his full support for Bangladesh’s reform efforts, the UN Secretary-General praised the country’s commitment to democratic transformation, emphasising its potential to become a global model of governance.
