UN Secretary-General António Guterres left Dhaka at 9:55am on Sunday (16 March), concluding his four-day visit to Bangladesh.
His departure from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport marked the end of an itinerary that encompassed high-level meetings, discussions with political leaders, and engagement with Rohingya refugees.
Guterres arrived in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon and was received at the airport by Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain.
On Friday, the second day of his visit, he travelled to Cox’s Bazar, where he toured the Rohingya refugee camps and joined thousands of refugees for an Iftar gathering.
On Saturday morning, he participated in a meeting with the United Nations Country Team in Bangladesh.
Later in the day, he engaged in a roundtable discussion with representatives from various political parties before holding a separate meeting with youth delegates.
In the afternoon, Guterres addressed a joint press conference alongside the Foreign Affairs Adviser, after which he attended an Iftar and early dinner session.
During the event, he reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh in its humanitarian and developmental endeavours.
He also expressed his appreciation for the country’s hospitality during his stay.
