Police have arrested Sakibul Hasan Swachchha, a local leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, in Singra upazila of Natore for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) on Facebook.
Swachchha, the general secretary of Ward-6 in the Chhatra League's Ramananda Khajura Union unit, was apprehended from the Singra Bazar area around midnight on Sunday, according to Singra Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asmaul Haque.
Police and locals reported that Swachchha posted offensive comments about the Prophet (PBUH) in the comment section of a political post on Facebook.
As his remarks circulated online, outraged locals gathered at Singra Police Station around 10:00 pm, demanding action and submitting a written complaint.
In response, police launched an immediate operation and arrested Swachchha from Singra Bazar. He will be presented before the court on Monday in a defamation case, the OC confirmed.
