A woman and her son were killed after being struck by lightning in Madya Betchhari area under Merung union of Diginala upazila in Khagrachhari on Sunday (5 May) morning.
The victims were identified as Hasina Begum, wife of transport worker Sadek Mia; and their 8-year-old son Md Hanif Mia.
Merung Union Chairman Lucky Akhter said, “Sadek Mia’s house caught fire in the early morning by lightning. At that time, his wife Hasina Begum and son Md Hanif Mia were burnt to death inside the house.”
On information, a team of Dighinala Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and recovered their bodies.
