The Dhaka Metropolitan unit of the National Citizen Party (NCP) will stage a protest rally today (Saturday), calling for the cancellation of the Awami League’s registration and its trial.

According to a statement shared by NCP Chief Organiser (South) Hasnat Abdullah on Facebook, the rally is set to take place at 3 pm in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh.

The demonstration aims to demand legal proceedings against Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League over allegations of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and genocide. The NCP is also calling for a complete ban on the party’s political and organizational activities.

The party has urged all its leaders and activists to participate in the rally on time.

On Friday, the NCP reaffirmed its stance against any efforts to rehabilitate the Awami League in Bangladesh’s political landscape.

“NCP is committed to ensuring the trial of the July massacre and all other crimes against humanity perpetrated by the past fascist regime. Awami League’s registration must be revoked as part of this process,” said NCP Convener Nahid Islam at a press conference in the city.

He also condemned the recent statement by the Chief Adviser of the interim government, who had said there were no plans to ban the Awami League.

"We strongly denounce this remark," Nahid Islam said.

NCP Member Secretary Akhter Hossen and Chief Organiser for the southern region Hasnat Abdullah also spoke at the event, reiterating their party’s firm position against the Awami League.
