The National Citizen Party (NCP) today demanded exemplary punishment of the officials involved in manipulating the last three parliamentary elections.

“Voting rights had been snatched away in the last 15 years. Those (government officers) involved in irregularities and misdeeds in the three national elections must be brought to proper justice through investigation,” said NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after coming out of a meeting between Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin and a NCP delegation at the Election Bhaban in capital’s Agargaon.

NCP Joint Convenors Anik Roy, Khaled Saifullah, Mujahidul Islam Shahin and Tasnuva Zabeen were present during the meeting.

Mentioning that Bangladesh is going through a reform process, Nasiruddin Patwary said, “We have held talks to bring the Election Commission under the reform process.”

The NCP leader said they wanted a system to be introduced as Imam of the mosques and school teachers at the village level can go to the parliament.

He demanded a certification within 48 hours prior to publish the gazette that the election was free and credible so that the Election Commission (EC) subsequently can  be placed    under punishment.

“We want change in the electorate rules and code of conduct and the EC assured us of bringing the changes in this regard,” he said.

During the meeting, they held talks about various issues which include the election, election commission formulation act, political party registration act and timeframe of the registration.
