Students from seven government colleges formerly affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) have issued a 15-day ultimatum, demanding the completion and release of an outline for establishing a new, independent university.

Abdur Rahman, a spokesperson for the students, stated, "The committee tasked with preparing the outline has informed us that their work is complete, and they assured us it will be submitted soon. However, we have given a 15-day deadline for this." He made the remarks at a press briefing held at Dhaka College auditorium on Tuesday evening.

This announcement came shortly after the students withdrew a 24-hour ultimatum earlier in the day. The withdrawal followed assurances from officials that their demands would be addressed promptly.

The decision to retract the 24-hour ultimatum was made during a meeting at the Secretariat with Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Nahid Islam. Representatives from Dhaka College and Eden Mohila College attended the meeting.

Earlier, on Monday evening, the students had called for the resignation of DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof. Dr. Mamun Ahmed. During a press briefing at Dhaka College’s Shaheed Minar, they also demanded the immediate removal of the Officer-in-Charge (OC) and Assistant Commissioner (AC) of New Market Police Station, accusing them of involvement in the alleged assault of a Dhaka College student.
