The clash between Dhaka University students and students of seven affiliated colleges was unfortunate, Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul said today (27 January).

"The incidents of yesterday's clashes are unfortunate. We will try to take more initiatives to avoid them," said the law adviser after a meeting at the home ministry at the secretariat.

In response to another question, he said, "We will try to resolve this issue soon."

Earlier last night (26 January), the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB), along with police assistance, were deployed as students of the seven government colleges and Dhaka University locked in sporadic clashes at the Nilkhet intersection.

Four platoons of the BGB were deployed to maintain order as students of both seven colleges and Dhaka University were positioned there at around midnight, BGB PRO Shariful Islam confirmed.

Police reportedly lobbed sound grenades to disperse the crowd.

After intervention from the security forces, the situation started to normalise as tensions died down between the two groups at around 1:30am.
