Students of the seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University have issued a stern warning of intensified agitation should their six-point demand not be met within the next four hours.

The announcement was made during a press conference held in front of the main gate of Dhaka College on Monday (27 January).

Their demands include an official apology from the Dhaka University administration for recent clashes involving its students and those from the seven colleges, along with the resignation of Pro-Vice Chancellor Mamun Ahmed.

Additionally, they seek immediate action against the New Market police officers, including the assistant commissioner and officer-in-charge, who were allegedly involved in a violent assault on Dhaka College student Rakib and other students.

Furthermore, the students demand disciplinary measures against Dhaka University students accused of making derogatory remarks and inappropriate gestures towards female students of Eden College, Badrunnesa College, and other institutions under the seven colleges.

A key demand calls for the complete severance of academic and administrative ties between Dhaka University and the seven colleges, urging the formulation of a roadmap for an independent university as per student demands.

They also insist on an immediate high-level meeting involving the chief adviser, education adviser, Adviser Nahid Islam, a University Grants Commission member, and the Dhaka University vice-chancellor to resolve the crisis.

Lastly, the students demand that roads within the Dhaka University area, currently restricted, be reopened for public access under the jurisdiction of the city corporation.

With the ultimatum set, tensions continue to escalate as students await a response from the authorities, warning of stronger measures should their concerns remain unaddressed.
