Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has reiterated that no foreign national residing illegally will be permitted to remain in Bangladesh.
The statement came during a press briefing on Sunday (8 December), following a meeting focused on law and order ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The adviser clarified that this stance was not a sudden decision.
"The list of foreign nationals, including their countries of origin, will be reviewed to determine how long they may stay in Bangladesh," he said.
Addressing border security, Chowdhury assured that all border areas are under tight surveillance.
"Illegal entry across borders will not be tolerated under any circumstances," he asserted.
Regarding an upcoming visit by India’s foreign secretary, the adviser confirmed, "It will be a secretary-level meeting."
Strict regulations were also announced for New Year's Eve celebrations.
"No fireworks or lanterns will be permitted for Thirty-First Night. Furthermore, the young generation often indulges in certain activities involving drinking during this time, but such behaviour in public spaces will not be allowed," said Chowdhury.
The government appears committed to ensuring a secure and orderly festive season while maintaining vigilance over both domestic and cross-border activities.
