Six more die of dengue, 1,083 hospitalised in 24 hours

Six dengue patients succumbed to the disease, and 1,083 others were hospitalised across the counrty in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).  

Among the newly hospitalised, Dhaka division saw the highest number of cases, with 244 in Dhaka North City and 115 in Dhaka South. Other regions reported cases as follows: 84 in Barishal, 107 in Chattogram, 145 in Khulna, 58 in Rajshahi, 36 in Mymensingh, 10 in Rangpur, and four in Sylhet division.  

This year, the total number of dengue cases has climbed to 81,068, with 421 fatalities reported so far, the DGHS said in a press release.  

In comparison, 2023 was the deadliest year for dengue in Bangladesh, with 1,705 deaths and 321,179 cases recorded.  

Health authorities continue to urge the public to take preventive measures, including destroying mosquito breeding grounds, to curb the spread of the disease.
