Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus praised migrant workers as the architects of the nation and highlighted their crucial role in the July-August mass uprising, expressing lasting gratitude to them.

“Migrants endure great hardship to earn money and send it back to Bangladesh. Today’s initiative is a step towards giving them the respect and recognition they deserve. We believe this lounge will ease their travel experience,” he said while inaugurating a special lounge dedicated to migrant workers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday (11 November).

This is the first lounge of its kind for migrants at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, offering a place to rest and access to subsidised meals.

Also present at the event were Law and Migrant Welfare Adviser Asif Nazrul and senior officials from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

Professor Asif Nazrul expressed deep respect for Bangladeshi migrant workers and millions of expatriates who make sacrifices for their homeland.

Fatima Nusrat Ghazali, deputy chief of the IOM mission in Bangladesh, remarked that the United Nations sponsored the lounge to assist Bangladeshi migrant workers.

“This is an initiative led by the Honourable Chief Adviser. We are pleased to support it. Furthermore, the IOM is sponsoring approximately 100 volunteers to assist migrants at the airport,” she stated.
