A boarding bridge collapsed onto a Kuwait Airways Boeing 777-300ER at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early on Wednesday (6 November), shearing off the aircraft's door and causing significant damage to its fuselage.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:30am, shortly after Kuwait Airways flight KU283 had landed at 1:30am, said the airport authority.

After all passengers had disembarked, the boarding bridge, which was attached to the aircraft's door, suddenly gave way.

At the time of the collapse, only the pilot and cabin crew were still onboard.

The aircraft, which had been scheduled to depart for Kuwait at 2:45am with 284 passengers, is currently grounded at the airport.

Kuwait Airways has made arrangements for an alternate aircraft to transport the stranded passengers, who are now waiting in the airport's lounge.

In the interim, accommodation has been arranged for them at a nearby hotel.

The airline has also assured passengers with connecting flights from Kuwait that free arrangements will be provided to help them reach their final destinations.
