Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has claimed that people across various regions of the country are being harassed using forged signatures in his name.
Hasnat Abdullah shared this information in a post on his personal Facebook account on Thursday (29 August).
In the post, he stated, "I have received complaints that notices are being sent using forged signatures in my name, resulting in the harassment of ordinary citizens in different parts of the country. There is even an allegation that a person who was set to travel to Japan on a scholarship was detained at immigration due to a forged signature in my name. Legal action has been taken regarding these complaints. Such activities by the people of this country are disheartening."
He further addressed those involved in the forgery, stating, "Forging signatures is a criminal offence under Bangladeshi law. If anyone uses our signatures for such deception, the maximum punishment under the law will be ensured."
In addition, he highlighted the need to stop the harassment and extortion of citizens, saying, "Bribery, false cases, harassment, and extortion are unacceptable as they go against the core spirit of the mass uprising. I urge the authorities to take action against those involved in such activities under the existing legal framework."
