The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, a drone, and a signal jammer, among other equipment, in an operation in Ruma, Bandarban.

"Following intelligence reports of a terrorist group establishing a hideout in the dense forest near the Dhompani canal, close to the tri-border area with Myanmar, BGB personnel launched a pre-dawn operation,"  Ruma Battalion (9 BGB) Commander  Lt Col Hasibul Haque on Friday (20 September).

"However, upon learning of the raid, the terrorists fired blank rounds and fled the scene. Later, in the morning, BGB forces encircled the hideout and, during the subsequent operation, recovered six different types of weapons, including two carbines, 21 rounds of ammunition, a drone, a sophisticated signal jammer, and other equipment," he added.

Search operations are still ongoing in the area, as it is suspected that additional weapons and equipment may be hidden, BGB said.

Local residents believe that the weapons and equipment likely belong to the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF).

However, no official statement has yet been made by the BGB regarding this.

The recovered signal jammer, a highly advanced piece of technology, was reportedly used by the terrorists to disrupt signals from security forces' wireless systems, mobile phones, and drones.

It is noteworthy that the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) has been under joint forces’ scrutiny since allegations arose regarding their involvement in the armed robbery of a bank, an attack on a mosque, and the looting of cash and weapons in Ruma and Thanchi on 2 and 3 April.
