Demonstrators gathered at different points of the capital Dhaka to protest against the recent killings, injuries and arrests of students amid the quota reform movement and press home 9-point demands.

A rally began from the northern gate of Baitul Mukarram following the Jummah prayers at around 2pm on Friday (2 August).

Despite the heavy presence of police, including riot vehicles and prison vans, on Mirpur Road, law enforcement officers remained silent as the protesters chanted in front of them.

The protestors gathered in the Shahbagh intersection and held a rally.

Later the protesters entered Dhaka University campus and took position near the Shaheed minar.

The protests have been organised by the platform of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, which has previously been active in the quota reform movement.

9-point demand includes the resignation of some ministers – home minister, road transport and bridges minister, education minister, state minister for ICT and law minister – as taking accountability for all those killed by state forces in the protests.

The students also demanded the resignation of VCs and proctors of all universities, including Dhaka University, Jagannath University, Jahangirnagar University, Rajshahi University and Chittagong University, where peaceful protests were attacked by law and order forces.

Pretesting students have also demanded to ban student politics.

The 9-point demands also include the immediate reopening of all educational institutions and dormitories.

The curfew should be lifted, and the police, Rab, BGB, SWAT, and army deployed on campuses nationwide should be withdrawn, it adds.
