In a ceremony set for 14 September, the government will commemorate the martyrs of the student and people's uprising with a memorial costing Tk5 crore, announced the Finance and Commerce Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed.
"The memorial event will take place at the China Friendship Conference Centre on 14 September, honouring the martyrs of the student and people's uprising," he said during a press briefing following a meeting of the Government Procurement Advisory Council on Tuesday (10 September).
Earlier, on 9 September (Monday), Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Adviser Md Nahid Islam, stated that the memorial would be held to pay tribute to all the martyrs of the uprising on 14 September.
He also mentioned that the government intends to accord the highest honours to the families of the martyrs during the event. He emphasised the importance of featuring the significant incidents of "Bangla Blockade", "Complete Shutdown", and "Long March to Dhaka" as these phrases played a vital role in energising the movement.
The memorial is designed to evoke the spirit of the July mass movement, Islam added, noting that the event would be planned accordingly.
Md Nahid Islam will serve as the focal point of the memorial, while Assistant Professor Mohammad Zahidul Haque of Jagannath University has contributed his input on various designs for the event.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministry, including the Secretary for Posts and Telecommunications Dr Md Mushfiqur Rahman.
