Prices of kitchen market commodities remain in the capital’s kitchen markets despite there being almost no buyers amid the long Eid vacation.

Traders said the price hike is due to a supply crunch amid the Eid holidays.

Visiting the Karwan Bazar Kitchen market on Friday (12 April), most of the shops were seen closed, and the one’s that are open have been short on supplies.

Vegetable trader Sujan said the prices of all products including vegetables are still at the pre-Eid prices.

“The is no supply since the eve of Eid. In the last two days, only a handful of trucks have been coming here with supplies,” he added.

Pumpkin was being sold at Tk40 per kg, papaya at Tk30-40 per kg, cucumber at Tk70-80 per kg, a hali (set of four) of lemons at Tk50, tomato at Tk60 per kg and gourd at Tk80-100 per kg.

Apart from this, potato was being sold at Tk50, onion at Tk60, ginger at Tk200, and garlic at Tk200 per kg.

Hilsa fish weighing 700 grams was being sold at Tk 1,200 per piece, broiler chicken at Tk260-280 per kg, Sonali chicken at Tk380 per kg, mutton at Tk 1,150 per kg and beef was being sold at Tk800 per kg.
