Fish, meat market cool down while chili, cucumber prices skyrocket

As the Eid festivities approach, consumers are experiencing a mixed bag in market prices, with fish and meat becoming more affordable, while key vegetables, especially cucumber and chili, see sharp increases.

As the Eid festivities approach, consumers are experiencing a mixed bag in market prices, with fish and meat becoming more affordable, while key vegetables, especially cucumber and chili, see sharp increases.

After visiting several kitchen markets in Dhaka on Friday, it was found that fish prices have decreased by Tk20-Tk50 per kg.

Here are the latest prices: pangas fish price drops to Tk140/kg (down from Tk180/kg, big ones Tk160/kg), Rui fish Tk260/kg, Nola fish Tk220/kg, Bata fish Tk200/kg, Carfu fish Tk200/kg, Sarputi Tk200/kg, Silver carp Tk160/kg, Telapia Tk180/kg, Mola fish Tk400/kg and shrimp Tk600/kg (big ones Tk800/kg).

The price of broiler chicken reduced to Tk180-185/kg, red lea chicken Tk350/kg, Sonali cock chicken Tk300/kg, beef Tk780/kg (down from Tk800/kg) and
mutton Tk1000-1100/kg.

While the fish and meat markets cool down, vegetable prices remain steady, with some items becoming significantly more expensive. Notably, the prices of cucumber and green chili have surged,

The price of cucumber and green chili rose to rose to Tk100-120/kg (up from Tk80/kg) and Tk200-220/kg respectively.
Other vegetable prices include: sponge gourd Tk60/kg, sweet bitter gourd Tk80/kg, pointed gourd Tk60/kg, round shape brinjal Tk80/kg, bitter gourd Tk80/kg, ladies finger Tk60/kg, green sweet pumpkin Tk60 per piece, lemon Tk20 per four pieces, potato Tk55/kg, onion Tk85-90/kg, ginger Tk260-280/kg, and garlic Tk200-220/kg.
