Protesting RMG workers withdrew their blockade on the Banani-Airport road after 7 hours following assurances from the authorities.

Two garment workers lost their lives in a road accident in Banani early on Monday (10 March) morning, triggering a protest by their colleagues who obstructed traffic on key roads and the Elevated Expressway.

The incident occurred at approximately 6am, said Kazi Zahidur Rahman Abir, the on-duty officer at Banani Police Station.

While the identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed, police have acknowledged the casualties.

Following the accident, garment workers gathered in large numbers at Chairmanbari in Banani, blocking both sides of the road.

The protest led to a complete halt of traffic on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in both directions.

Additionally, the demonstrators obstructed the exit ramp of the Elevated Expressway at Banani, preventing vehicles from descending, which resulted in severe gridlock on the expressway itself.

Law enforcement officials have arrived at the scene and are worked to bring the situation under control, according to Kazi Zahidur Rahman.
