A couple was tragically killed, and their 14-year-old daughter seriously injured when they were hit by a pickup van while crossing the road in the capital's Jatrabari area on Monday (17 February) morning.
The incident occurred around 7am near Saddam Market, in front of Matuwail, as the family attempted to cross the road.
According to police reports, the deceased have been identified as Abdul Jabbar and his wife Runa Akter, while their daughter, Juhi Akter, was critically injured and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The family, originally from Jamalpur, resided in the Konabari area of Demra.
Juhi, a student of Class VIII at Ikra High School in Jatrabari, is currently being treated for her injuries.
Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamrul Islam Talukder told media that the pickup van collided with the couple as they were crossing the road, resulting in their fatalities.
The vehicle was seized, and police have initiated legal proceedings regarding the incident.
Local authorities are urging pedestrians to be cautious while crossing busy roads, as investigations continue into the circumstances of this tragic event.
