Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, has asserted that no security personnel will be exempt from accountability if found negligent in maintaining law and order.
Speaking to journalists at Banani Military Cemetery on Tuesday (25 February), following a wreath-laying ceremony in observance of National Martyred Soldiers' Day, he underscored the government's firm stance on ensuring discipline within law enforcement agencies.
A joint operation aimed at curbing theft, robbery, and mugging commenced on Monday night.
Addressing the initiative, the adviser remarked, "If we detect any negligence on the part of any member of any security force, they will not be spared.
The operation has been structured meticulously, and should any official or force member exhibit negligence, they will be brought under the purview of the law."
Emphasising the zero-tolerance policy, he added, "No one will be exempt, whether they belong to the police, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the Ansar, or the prison authorities."
Commenting on the Pilkhana massacre trials, he stated, "Every possible effort is being made to ensure due justice for the Pilkhana killings. A national independent investigation commission is actively working on the matter."
Earlier in the day, several dignitaries paid homage at the Banani Military Cemetery in observance of National Martyred Army Day.
Wreaths were placed by the military secretary to the president and the military secretary to the chief adviser on their behalf.
This was followed by tributes from the chiefs of the three armed forces, the Senior Secretary of the Public Security Division, the Director-General of the BGB, and six members of the families of the martyrs.
