A police officer was killed when a truck ran over his motorcycle in the Gullah area of Basail Upazila of Tangail on the Dhaka-Tangail highway today (9 March).
The deceased, Md Yunus Ali, (46), was serving as a Sub-Inspector (SI) at South Keraniganj Police Station on the outskirts of Dhaka, said Mazharul Amin, Officer-in-Charge of Basail Police Station.
According to police and local sources, “Yunus Ali served at Tangail Model Police Station for three years. Recently, he was promoted to Sub-Inspector and posted to South Keraniganj Police Station. However, his family resides nearby Tangail Model Police Station.”
“On Saturday afternoon, he was traveling from Tangail to his working place Dhaka riding on a motorcycle. When he reached near Gullah Primary School in Basail Upazila on the Dhaka-Tangail highway, a speeding truck hit his motorcycle from behind, resulting in his immediate death.”
The OC also said, "The police are actively working to identify the truck involved in the incident and apprehend its driver. The body of the deceased has been recovered from the spot and kept at highway police station. The body will be handed over to the family members after completing the legal procedures.”
