Army Chief General Wakar-Uz-Zaman underscores unity and resilience during a national crisis while commemorating the valour of Liberation War veterans and honouring peace-time achievements.

Bangladesh Army has stepped forward during the nation’s critical juncture, stated Chief of Army Staff General Wakar-Uz-Zaman, adding that collective efforts can help the country overcome its current challenges.

“Our endeavours are focused on steering the nation towards a safe and prosperous future. The army is diligently working to help the country navigate its current situation," during a ceremony to honour valiant Liberation War veterans and present peace-time medals to distinguished army personnel at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment on Sunday (1 December).

Reflecting on the contributions of Liberation War veterans, the army chief acknowledged, “Our present standing is a result of the sacrifices made by these heroes. The army continues its relentless efforts to uphold peace and maintain law and order day and night.”

The ceremony at the Army Multipurpose Complex paid tribute to decorated and other Liberation War veteran army personnel and their family members.

General Wakar-Uz-Zaman personally interacted with the honourees and their families.

Additionally, medals were awarded to 28 army personnel in recognition of outstanding service during the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

Among them, five received the Sena Bahini Padak (SBP), five were honoured with the Osamannya Seba Padak (OSP), and 18 were awarded the Bishishto Seba Padak (BSP).

The event began with a recitation of the heroic exploits of the decorated Liberation War veterans and an overview of the commendable achievements of the peace-time medal recipients.

The annual ceremony is organised by Army Headquarters to eternalise the contributions of Liberation War veteran army personnel to the country’s independence struggle.

Present at the event were decorated Liberation War veterans, their family members, senior military officers, army personnel, invited dignitaries, and members of the media.
