In a bid to bolster Bangladesh’s sustainable economy, stability, and growth while promoting meaningful and quality employment, a high-profile delegation from the United States, led by Special Representative for International Labour Affairs Kelly M Fay Rodríguez, has arrived in Dhaka for a four-day official visit.
Deputy Undersecretary Thea Lee of the US Department of Labour also accompanies the delegation.
Arriving in Dhaka on the morning of Friday (22 November), the delegation initiated their visit with discussions on labour conditions with the Solidarity Centre, a prominent workers’ organisation.
Later in the day, they are scheduled to meet with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to deliberate on pertinent labour issues.
The delegation is expected to hold meetings with representatives of various governmental entities as well.
Sources reveal that the delegation plans to engage with interim government officials, private-sector garment producers, and stakeholders from labour unions.
Discussions will also include representatives of US companies investing in Bangladesh’s garment sector and global labour experts, focusing on strategies to support Bangladesh’s economy, democracy, and workforce effectively.
This visit underscores the United States’ commitment to fostering economic development, advancing internationally recognised labour standards, and promoting sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
