Workers from three factories in Gazipur have taken to the streets in protest, demanding payment of attendance bonuses, tiffin allowances, and night duty wages, among other entitlements.

The demonstration saw the workers block the Dhaka-Tangail Highway, bringing traffic to a standstill for an extended period.

Joint forces were dispatched to the site to mediate between the workers and the factory authorities in an effort to bring the situation under control.

The protests began around 11am on Tuesday (8 October), near the Maona area, involving workers from Purvani, Logo's, and ATF Apparels factories. The protesting workers claim that the management has been withholding various payments, including attendance bonuses, tiffin allowances, and night duty wages, without any justification.

Despite repeated complaints to the factory owners, no action has been taken.

One of the protesting workers, Ashraf Miah, expressed his frustration, saying, “The factory owners want to enrich themselves by withholding our tiffin and attendance bonuses. They have no empathy for the hard work we put into their factories.”

Sarwar Alam, superintendent of Gazipur Industrial Police-2, said “Workers at three factories in the Maona area are demonstrating. We are currently in talks with both parties to resolve the issue."
