In a recent directive, the interim government has established two committees to consider the withdrawal of harassment cases stemming from political animosity and various other reasons.

The announcement was made on Sunday (22 September) by Public Security Division Secretary Mohammad Abdul Momen.

Committee will be chaired by law adviser, while the district-level committee will be led by the district magistrate.

The ministry's committee will consist of four members, including a member secretary, whereas the district committee will comprise two members and a member secretary.

According to the directive, applications for the withdrawal of politically motivated harassment cases must be submitted to the District Magistrate by 31 December.

The applications should include certified copies of the First Information Report (FIR) and, where applicable, the charge sheet.

The directive further states that if the district committee finds evidence that a case was filed for political or other harassment purposes, it will recommend to the government the withdrawal of the case.

Upon receiving recommendations from the district committee, the ministry's committee will conduct a thorough review of these suggestions and take appropriate action.
