Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives Advisor AF Hasan Ariff has said that the circumstances surrounding the release of certain convicted criminals will be thoroughly investigated.
In response to a question about the release of one such individual, Aslam from Sweden, Ariff stated that the reasons for his release will be scrutinised.
During a briefing at the Secretariat on Wednesday (4 September), Ariff addressed the issue of ongoing labour unrest.
He clAriffied that those involved in recent vandalism are not genuine workers but rather outsiders. He added that restoring normalcy to the country will require additional time and announced that stringent measures will be implemented to protect workers and safeguard the economy. He also indicated that security forces will be deployed to quell the labour movement.
Ariff emphasised the need for collective support to bolster police morale during these challenging times.
In related developments, at least 60 garment factories in Ashulia, Savar, have been shut down following several days of protests by garment workers demanding various concessions.
Additionally, garment workers in several areas of Gazipur have taken to the streets today, advocating for reinstatement of jobs and other demands.
