The Ministry of Home Affairs is set to introduce a toll-free hotline for reporting rape and abuse complaints, which will be announced within the next 24 hours, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul stated during a press conference at the Secretariat on Sunday.

Additionally, a dedicated monitoring cell under the Ministry of Law will oversee rape cases to ensure swift justice. Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury was also present at the briefing.

The hotline will be accessible 24/7, allowing victims to file complaints at any time. The Home Ministry’s monitoring cell will work to prevent delays in case resolutions.

The government has also mandated that rape investigations be completed within 15 days, with trials concluding within 90 days.

During the press conference, Asif Nazrul confirmed that the appellate division has revoked the bail of Saiful Islam, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Dinajpur child rape case.

He acknowledged that while the government may sometimes fall short of expectations, it remains committed to addressing violence against women.

Emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance, home adviser declared that there is no place for rapists in Bangladesh. The administration is fully dedicated to ensuring justice and taking necessary measures to prevent sexual violence.

Referring to a recent law and order meeting at the chief adviser’s office, Asif Nazrul stated that authorities are determined to adopt stricter measures. He warned that any form of mob justice will be firmly suppressed moving forward.
