The Election Commission (EC) is set to launch a door-to-door campaign to update the voter list starting on 20 January 2025, as per an EC official. The official, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the training programme for the officials involved in the update process will conclude by 5 January 2025.
EC Additional Secretary KM Ali Newaz stated that preparations for the voter list update are already underway. "We aim to begin the programme in the second half of January 2025," he said.
Trainers will complete their training by 5 January, and these trainers will subsequently instruct field personnel on gathering voter information.
The update will focus on collecting details for those who will turn 18 by 1 January 2026.
The official also noted that after the draft voter list is published on 2 January 2025, it will be open for public viewing. Citizens will have the opportunity to review the list and raise objections. A dispute resolution process will be available, and after this, the final voter list will be published on 2 March 2025.
In addition to collecting information for the 2025 voter list, the EC will also gather data for the 2026 list.
Those who turn 18 by January 1, 2026, will be included in the voter list for that year. However, they will not be eligible to vote in the 2025 elections.
The EC has urged all citizens to assist by providing accurate information to enumerators when they visit homes for data collection. Citizens are also encouraged to update the status of deceased voters.
