The interim government has hailed Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus’ visit to China as a significant step towards mutual cooperation, with Beijing promising enhanced collaboration on key issues, including investment, river management, and Rohingya repatriation.

High Representative to the Chief Adviser Khalilur Rahman and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik, in a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Sunday (30 March), described the visit as a success, highlighting the high-level recognition Yunus received from President Xi Jinping.

Investment, Teesta Project, and Bilateral Cooperation

Bangladesh invited Chinese firms to participate in the Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Restoration Project, receiving a "positive approach" from Beijing, according to Khalilur Rahman.

Meanwhile, BIDA engaged with over 100 Chinese companies, presenting Bangladesh as a prime investment destination.

During the visit, both sides signed agreements on economic and technical cooperation, cultural exchanges, media collaboration, and health sector partnerships.

China's Role in Rohingya Repatriation and Regional Stability

China acknowledged Bangladesh’s efforts in hosting displaced Rohingyas and pledged continued diplomatic support for a peaceful resolution through consultations with Myanmar.

Strengthening the Strategic Partnership

Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, vowing to deepen political trust and development collaboration.

China reiterated its noninterference policy, backing Bangladesh’s sovereignty and governance.

Xi Pledges Greater Cooperation

President Xi Jinping assured stronger cooperation for Bangladesh’s progress, with Yunus extending an invitation for a state visit to Dhaka.

Yunus attended the Boao Forum for Asia before holding high-level meetings in Beijing.
