During his official visit to China, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, engaged in high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Vice President Han Zheng, and Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang.
The visit, which began with his participation in the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference, culminated in a joint statement reaffirming the two nations' commitment to their Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and a range of bilateral agreements, said a press release from the CA's Press Wing.
Marking 50 years of diplomatic ties, both nations emphasised adherence to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and pledged to bolster economic collaboration, political trust, and regional stability.
China welcomed Bangladesh’s interim government and expressed support for its governance and reform initiatives since August 2024.
Among key agreements, Bangladesh reaffirmed its adherence to the One-China policy, opposing "Taiwan independence," while China pledged continued support for Bangladesh’s economic and infrastructural development.
The two sides announced plans to launch negotiations on a Bangladesh-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA), optimise their investment agreement, and facilitate greater exports of Bangladeshi agricultural and aquatic products, including fresh mangoes, to China.
Bangladesh welcomed Chinese investment in infrastructure projects, including the Mongla Port Facilities Modernisation and Expansion Project and the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone (CEIZ) in Chattogram.
Further cooperation was pledged in water resource management, climate change mitigation, and blue economy development, with China supporting Bangladesh’s Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Restoration Project (TRCMRP).
Both nations agreed to expand people-to-people exchanges, celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations through cultural, educational, and media collaborations.
China also acknowledged Bangladesh’s humanitarian role in hosting displaced people from Myanmar’s Rakhine State and pledged further support for repatriation efforts.
The visit includes the signing of multiple agreements covering economic and technical cooperation, cultural heritage preservation, media exchanges, and health collaboration.
Professor Yunus extended an invitation to China’s leadership for a visit to Bangladesh, marking the next step in an evolving strategic partnership.
