Fuel prices will remain unchanged for April, with diesel and kerosene priced at Tk105 per litre, octane at Tk126, and petrol at Tk122. The decision was confirmed in a directive issued by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division on 31 March.
According to the directive, the existing pricing structure has been retained to ensure a relatively affordable fuel supply for the month. The government has been adjusting domestic fuel prices through an automated system based on fluctuations in the global market. However, this executive pricing mechanism has drawn strong opposition.
Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) has repeatedly protested against fuel price determinations through executive orders, arguing that the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) should have sole authority over pricing decisions. "We are preparing to challenge this in court, just as we successfully reinstated BERC’s control over LPG pricing," a CAB representative stated.
