Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President Hasanul Haq Inu has been arrested by the police.
He was apprehended from his residence in Uttara, the capital city, on Monday (26 August), said a source.
Former information minister Hasanul Haq Inu is one of the most important leaders of the 14-party political alliance led by Awami League.
Earlier on August 22, another important leader of the 14-party alliance, Bangladesh Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon was also arrested.
Awami League president Sheikh Hasina left the country after resigning from the post of prime minister in the face of a mass movement of students on 5 August.
After the fall of the government, there have been several murder cases in the name of Sheikh Hasina and former ministers-state ministers and Awami League leaders-activists.
14 Party leaders, including Rashed Khan Menon and Hasanul Haq Inu, have also been charged with murder.
Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her cabinet members have also been accused of genocide in the International Criminal Tribunal.
Several ministers of the ousted government have been arrested in these cases.
Among them are Awami League joint general secretary and former social welfare minister Dipu Moni, former law minister Anisul Haque, former prime minister's advisor Salman F Rahman, former jute minister Golam Dastgir Gazi, former deputy speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku and former state minister Junaid Ahmed Palak among others.
