Dengue claims 11 more lives, 1,079 hospitalised in 24 hours

Eleven more deaths from dengue were reported in Bangladesh in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday morning, raising this year's death toll to 459, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the latest fatalities, five occurred in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), four in Dhaka South City Corporation, and two in Khulna Division.

During this period, 1,079 new patients were hospitalised with dengue across the country. Among them, 194 were admitted to hospitals in DNCC areas and 121 in DSCC areas.

Currently, 3,720 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals nationwide.

Since January 1, 2024, the country has recorded 86,791 dengue cases. The mosquito-borne disease took 1,705 lives last year, marking 2023 as the deadliest year for dengue in Bangladesh, with 321,179 cases and 318,749 recoveries reported.

Authorities continue to urge residents to take precautionary measures against the spread of dengue.
