BMD forecasts gusty winds, thunderstorms, and isolated hail through the week across much of Bangladesh

On the opening day of Boishakh, light rain brought a welcome reprieve from intense heat in various parts of the country.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued fresh forecasts, predicting temporary gusty winds, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms in the coming days.

According to the bulletin issued for the 24 hours from 6pm on Monday (14 April), sporadic showers accompanied by thunder and lightning are likely in one or two places across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.

Scattered hail may also occur in some regions.

A mild heatwave continues to sweep over Sandwip, Sitakunda and areas including Dhaka, Tangail, Narayanganj, Madaripur, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Cumilla, Chandpur, Feni, Khulna, Bagerhat and Patuakhali.

However, it may ease slightly in isolated areas. A slight drop in both daytime and nighttime temperatures is anticipated nationwide.

The 24-hour forecast from 6pm on Tuesday (15 April), suggests similar weather patterns—temporary gusts, lightning, rain and the possibility of isolated hail in a few areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

Daytime temperatures may fall slightly, while nighttime temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged.

For Wednesday (16 April) the forecast indicates thunder, gusty winds and rain in some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet, along with isolated parts of Khulna and Barisal.

Scattered hailstorms may also occur.

Both daytime and nighttime temperatures are likely to drop by 1°C to 2°C across the country.

From 6pm on Thursday (17 April), the BMD predicts temporary gusty winds, thunderstorms and rainfall in several areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

Daytime temperatures may drop by 1°C to 2°C, while nighttime temperatures may see a slight rise.

On Friday (18 April) the forecast remains largely unchanged, with gusty winds, lightning and intermittent showers expected in parts of all eight divisions.

Day and night temperatures are likely to remain stable across the country.
