The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning for the next 72 hours, anticipating nor'westers, hailstorms, and thunderstorms across the country.

This alert comes through a notification released today  (5 May) evening, signed by Dr Muhammad Abul Kalam Malik.

The report also forecasts an increase in rainfall starting Monday (6 May), potentially easing the ongoing heatwave.

According to the notification, from 4pm today, regions including Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barisal, Khulna, Chattogram, and Sylhet are likely to experience severe weather conditions.

The warning specifies the possibility of scattered hail along with the expected thunderstorms.

The department also predicts that the increase in rainfall from Monday will help mitigate the heatwave conditions that have been affecting several parts of the country.

In addition to this, the forecast for Dhaka and its surrounding areas indicates the possibility of gusty or stormy winds tonight, with speeds ranging from 10-15 km/h escalating to 40-50 km/h in gusts.

Residents are advised to stay alert and follow updates as the situation develops.
