A low-pressure system has developed over the central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
The system is likely to move north-westwards until Tuesday (8 April), before gradually shifting northward.
Meteorologists suggest the disturbance may steadily gather strength, evolving into a well-marked low and potentially a depression.
As a result of the system, scattered rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning are likely to occur at isolated locations in the divisions of Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chattogram and Sylhet within the next 24 hours.
Elsewhere, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy skies.
BMD further reported that a mild heatwave is currently sweeping across the districts of Faridpur, Madaripur, Jashore, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram, Bandarban and Rangamati.
This may subside in some areas. Daytime temperatures across the country are expected to drop slightly, while night-time temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged.
Looking ahead, the trend of rain and thunderstorms is expected to persist over the next five days.
