Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has reached Thailand to participate in the sixth BIMSTEC summit, joining South Asia’s top leaders in Bangkok.
Yunus left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:55am on Thursday (3 April), en route to Bangkok, according to his press wing.
He will stay in Thailand from 3-4 April for the summit, accompanied by Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain and Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin, as confirmed by High Representative Khalilur Rahman in a briefing.
During his visit, Yunus is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with leaders from BIMSTEC member states, including India. He will also attend the signing of two memoranda of understanding.
A notable highlight of the summit will be Yunus’s first bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, set to take place in Bangkok at the sidelines of the summit.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh is set to assume the BIMSTEC chairmanship for the next two years, with the formal transition scheduled for the third day of the summit.
