Thousands gathered in Agargaon for a landmark Eid rally following the Eid-ul-Fitr prayers on Moday (31 March), marking the return of a long-lost tradition to Dhaka’s festive landscape.
The rally, the first of its kind, began at the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) grounds, where the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) had organised an Eid congregation.
From there, participants marched towards Sangshad Bhaban, where a cultural programme was held to commemorate the occasion.
Dhaka North Administrator Ejaz inaugurated the cultural event, highlighting the spirit of inclusivity.
“Today, friends from different religions have joined our Eid festival. We will revive our traditions,” he said.
Adviser Asif Mahmud underscored the significance of the day, stating, “We will not forget our martyred brothers even in this moment of joy. Today, Eid truly feels like Eid. After a hundred years, Dhaka is witnessing the revival of its traditional Eid procession. This will now become an annual event, uniting everyone in celebration.”
A sense of unity and harmony prevailed as people from various religious backgrounds participated in the rally.
Security was tight throughout the event, with Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) teams of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police deployed to ensure public safety.
The Eid congregation at Agargaon commenced at 8:30am, attended by Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan, DNCC Administrator Ejaz, and thousands of citizens.
Meanwhile, the main Eid prayers were held at the National Eidgah ground, where Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and several interim government advisers joined worshippers for the solemn occasion.
