EU Ambassador meets Mirza Fakhrul to discuss elections and reforms

Khosru said the discussions covered Bangladesh’s overall political and economic situation, as well as bilateral matters

European Union (EU) Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller met with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday to discuss various issues, including the country’s upcoming elections, reform initiatives, and bilateral relations.

The hour-long meeting, which began at 11 am, took place at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, according to BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan. BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Organising Secretary Shama Obaed were also present.

Speaking to reporters afterward, Khosru said the discussions covered Bangladesh’s overall political and economic situation, as well as bilateral matters. He added that they also addressed the upcoming general election, ongoing reforms, and efforts to restore democratic processes.

According to Khosru, the EU expressed its willingness to support Bangladesh in strengthening its electoral process and institutions through capacity-building and reforms.
