BNP is extending “serious and sincere” cooperation to the National Consensus Commission's initiative for state reform, according to party standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed.
“We are working in full transparency, with utmost sincerity and seriousness, to support the reform efforts,” Salahuddin told reporters on Sunday (20 April) during a dialogue session held at the LD Hall of the National Parliament.
The meeting resumed at 11am on Sunday, following a postponement last Thursday, 17 April.
On Thursday, the National Consensus Commission had held a full-day meeting with the BNP, focusing primarily on the recommendations of the Commission on Constitutional and Judicial Reform. However, not all proposals from both commissions were discussed at that time.
Sunday’s meeting was chaired by the Commission’s vice-president Professor Ali Riaz and moderated by the chief adviser’s special assistant, Monir Hayder. Among those present were commission members Safar Raj Hossain, Badiul Alam Majumdar, and Dr Iftekharuzzaman.
The BNP delegation included standing committee members Nazrul Islam Khan and Salahuddin Ahmed, party chairperson’s adviser Md Ismail Jobiullah, executive committee member Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol, and Abu Md Moniruzzaman Khan.
Salahuddin noted that discussions would encompass all five reform commissions, including those on elections, public administration, and anti-corruption.
“We hope to conclude discussions today on the reports of all five commissions. We will pick up from where we left off in the constitution talks and then move on to the judiciary and electoral reform. With that, we expect to wrap up the remaining discussions by this evening,” he said.
He also mentioned that the contents of Thursday’s dialogue had been discussed within the BNP’s party forum and that the National Consensus Commission would be duly informed.
