An 11-year-old girl, Arabi Islam Suba, has gone missing while crossing a road in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur, prompting an urgent police investigation.

Suba, a sixth-grade student from Barishal, had been staying in the capital for the past two months for her mother’s lung cancer treatment.

According to law enforcement officials, CCTV footage shows Suba walking away hand-in-hand with a young man, estimated to be over 20 years old.

The police are tracking the suspect’s mobile number to ascertain her whereabouts.

On Sunday (2 February) around 6pm, Suba left home with her younger cousin.

However, while crossing the road, she disappeared. Surveillance footage from the vicinity of Tokyo Square in Mohammadpur captured Suba in the company of an unidentified individual.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday (4 February), Adabor Police Station Officer-in-Charge SM Zakaria said that authorities are making every effort to locate the girl.

"We are pursuing all available leads, including the suspect’s mobile number, which has been provided by Suba’s family," he stated.

Suba’s father, Imran Rajib, expressed his distress, explaining that the family had been residing at his sister’s house in Dhaka for his wife’s medical treatment.

"On Sunday evening, Suba stepped out with her cousin. He was slightly ahead of her while crossing the road, and when he turned back, she was gone. We have filed a general diary at Adabor Police Station, and the police are investigating," he said.

Authorities continue their search, relying on digital forensics and surveillance footage to trace the missing girl.
