International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Tazul Islam has assured that all individuals accused of crimes against humanity during the ongoing anti-discrimination movement will be subjected to due legal process.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday (24 December), he stated, "As the incidents in question are widespread across the nation, it will take some time to include all cases. However, there is no reason for anyone to lose hope. We have already apprehended the principal perpetrators and masterminds of these crimes. Gradually, we will take the necessary actions against everyone involved."
Tazul Islam elaborated that investigations and related procedures for the cases filed with various police stations would continue as per the directives and guidance received from the government.
"Until the International Crimes Tribunal officially adopts these cases, all legal processes in connection with them will proceed uninterrupted," he added.
To dispel concerns among students and the public about the tribunal's credibility, he clarified, "We are not issuing arrest warrants indiscriminately. Warrants are being issued only against those for whom concrete evidence has been found through investigations. Genuine offenders will not evade justice, but innocent individuals will also not be harassed."
The chief prosecutor further emphasised the commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent process, reiterating that no guilty party would escape accountability, nor would any innocent individual be wrongfully implicated.
