BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman has said the ousted regime and its accomplices are conspiring, both domestically and abroad, to sabotage the interim government.
He made these comments at a brief rally on Friday (8 November) in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, marking the start of a Revolution and Solidarity Day procession.
The rally was inaugurated with Tarique Rahman's opening speech.
Addressing the crowd, Tarique Rahman said, “I extend my congratulations to all those fighting against fascism from today’s procession. On 5 August, we identified the enemy of the nation. This rally is not a protest against anyone; it is a march to safeguard national interests and reclaim our rights.”
Rahman further stated, “The anti-democratic conspiracies persist. The exiled autocrat and his allies are working to destabilise the interim government. However, this government must not be allowed to fail. We anticipate that it will fulfil the people's aspirations.”
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, addressing the rally, remarked, “Bangladesh’s largest political force is the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). November 7 is the day Bangladesh stood against dominance. It is the day we preserved multi-party democracy and built a sovereign nation. The BNP’s history is deeply intertwined with the nation's identity.”
Mirza Fakhrul went on to accuse the Awami League of systematically dismantling democracy over the past 16 years. “Through sustained struggle, and by mobilising students and the public, we have driven Hasina out, and a new chapter in Bangladesh's history is unfolding. We will forge national unity and crush any conspiracies. No refuge will remain for tyrants without democracy.”
The rally was led by BNP's Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman, with speeches from Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice Chair Abdul Awal Mintoo, and Joint Secretary General Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, along with leaders and activists from Dhaka Metropolitan BNP and associated bodies.
The event was moderated by BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku.
