A suspected member of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) was killed in a gunfight with Bangladesh Army-led joint forces during a raid in the Perachhara area of Naniarchar Upazila early Thursday.
According to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation began around 5:30 am following intelligence reports about a UPDF hideout in the area.
The suspected militants opened fire on the law enforcement team upon sensing their presence, prompting a gunfight, ISPR said. One UPDF member was killed on the spot, while others managed to escape.
The joint forces recovered an M-16 assault rifle, 90 rounds of rifle ammunition, two rounds of MG/sniper ammunition, a walkie-talkie, and 12 mobile phones from the scene.
The operation to locate the fleeing suspects is ongoing, ISPR added.
