Two individuals were shot, and five others injured by sound grenades, including journalists, as protests near Bangabhaban escalated after demonstrators attempted to enter the premises

Two individuals, including a student, were shot by police in front of Bangabhaban, while another was injured by a sound grenade.

The incident occurred at around 9:30pm on Tuesday (22 October), and the injured were promptly rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

The individuals shot were Faisal Ahmed Bishal, 24, and Shafiqul Islam, 45, while Arif, 20 was hurt by a sound grenade.

In a separate incident earlier that evening, at approximately 8:15pm, five people, including a journalist, were injured by an explosion from a sound grenade thrown by police near Bangabhaban.

The injured were immediately transported to DMCH for medical attention.

The injured from this incident include Raju Ahmed, 25, a multimedia reporter for Barta24.com, video journalist Ripon Reza, 28.

The unrest ensued when demonstrators, demanding the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin, gathered in front of Bangabhaban.

As tensions heightened, the protesters attempted to enter the premises, prompting police and military personnel to intervene.

The situation escalated, leading to injuries caused by police-fired sound grenades and shotgun fire, according to reports.
